About Our Preschool

A bit about our Preschool Program:
The children attend Catechesis of the Good Shepherd faith curriculum in our onsite Atrium.  Students meet with a volunteer CGS catechist or Ms. Julie to receive this Montessori style of learning about Jesus and our faith.  We learn about God’s love and creation throughout many of our academic lessons in the classroom as well.  

We follow a combination of Play to Learn Preschool curriculum and a bit of our own activities to supplement.  Play is essential to a child's development and learning.  Children are able to apply their learning during and through play; it's like practice for life!

We utilize the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum for our fine motor development and successful introduction to the skill of handwriting.

A Bit about the director and lead teacher, Ms. Julie:

My family moved to Brandon when I was three years old.  Growing up you would see me at the bowling alley, playing fast-pitch softball, marching with fellow ‘Bandos’ and hanging out with the youth group at church.  After HS I went off to college to pursue my degree in education.  I received a Bachelor’s Degree in both Elementary Education and Special Education with a minor in music.  My first teaching experience after graduation was at Crow Creek Middle School where I taught 6th grade math.  I then spent many years in various classrooms throughout Sioux Falls and Harrisburg as a substitute teacher before I decided to move back to Brandon.  I am blessed with 6 children, ages 12-20 and we love to be apart of the Risen Savior Parish and BV Lynx community.  

A Bit about our Educational Assistant, Miss Amanda:

 Amanda Brown has been at Risen Savior Preschool for over 10 years and loves being here with the children.  Her favorite thing to do with the kids is play games.  Miss Amanda also enjoys reading books to kids during story time. She is patient and kind and is always willing to put a puzzle together or sing a silly song with the kids too!  Amanda graduated from BVHS and still lives here in Brandon.  For fun Miss Amanda loves to go to concerts, especially country music and Christian music concerts.  Her favorite color is purple and she loves Frappucccino mocha iced coffee!
